Travel & Tropical Health  (MIRA 2)

Travel & Tropical Health (MIRA 2)

A five-day course for people travelling abroad to remote/austere environments who have a responsibility for themselves and others. The course follows on from MIRA 1 allowing students to improve their knowledge and skills and introduces primary care, health and hygiene, prolonged field care and nursing skills. The course includes:

- Medical planning and preparation;
- Chain of disease and types of disease;
- Emergency dentistry;
- Patient history and examination;
- Wound and pressure sore management;
- Tropical illness;
- Bites, stings and envenomations;
- Nursing skills including bladder catheterisation, nasogastric intubation and other skills required to manage an immobile patient over long evacuations or extended periods of time;
- Patient management exercise and role-play.

This course follows on from the MIRA 1 course however candidates may be able to take this course in isolation or prior to MIRA 1.
To attend this course you will have had to attended either our FPOS Intermediate course, or any other advanced first aid courses prior to booking on the Mira 2.
